What exactly is Atmos?
Dolby Atmos is an object-based, immersive audio format that can be experienced on large multi-speaker systems or soundbars, or in many new cars and even headphones! In addition to side to side (stereo) and front to back (surround) panning, Atmos adds a height component. In an Atmos mix, audio objects are positioned in space. Metadata in the ADM (Atmos) file stores position, volume and movement. The best part is that Atmos is scalable. A mix created on a larger 7.1.4 speaker system, like the Neumann system here at TWE, can be accurately played back on smaller systems without losing any of the audio content. A “Binaural Render” specifically for an immersive headphone experience, is part of every ADM file.
How can I hear Atmos?
The simplest way to listen to Atmos is to stream from Apple Music, Amazon Music or Tidal. If you have an iPhone and a pair of headphones, launch Apple Music, then go to Settings > Music > Dolby Atmos and choose Automatic or Always On.

How can I have my own releases mixed in Atmos?
If you have recorded at any of the other wonderful Long Island Studios, or in your own home, The Workshoppe East can remix your music in Atmos. If your songs are already mixed in stereo, and you LOVE the mixes, we will make every effort to honor the original mix. In fact, your original engineer can submit sub-mixed stems that include original mix processing and we will reconfigure the positioning for Atmos. I look forward to collaborating with musicians, producers and other engineers.
